Background Information

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) became an Agency of the Scottish Government on 1 April 2019. Our staff work in a broad range of roles that allow us to manage Scotlands national forests and land. There are five regions within FLS and the North Region manages forests and land in some of the most beautiful and iconic parts of Scotland including Skye, Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Cairngorms National Park and the Flow Country of Caithness. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team based in Smithton to manage the administrative function whilst assisting with transformational change. We have ambitious plans recognise that getting the right team of people and providing them with the right tools and support, is key to our success. The Smithton office is one of two main offices in the region, along with several smaller offices. The team plan and deliver major programmes including timber harvesting, replanting, forest road construction, native woodland and peatland restoration, renewable energy, recreation and outdoor learning. The key responsibilities for the role will include:

You will effectively lead and manage the administrative team based in Smithton to deliver a quality region-wide support service across core and specialist areas in line with FLSs objectives.

Leadership, Management & Support:

You will line manage a team of six carrying out staff reporting and supporting wider staff management;

  • Identify training and development needs for the administrative team and facilitate individual and team development;

  • Initiate and support changes to deliver business improvements.

     

    Finance & Procurement:

  • You will manage, monitor and report to the Business Manager on the delivery of financial and procurement activities;  

  • Oversee the delivery of end of year financial procedures.

     

    Health & Safety and General Admin:

  • Point of contact for Smithton building related matters;

  • Manage contracts associated with office management.
